ABOUT AMANDA WILLIAMS
Amanda Williams
Piano & MYC
Amanda grew up on Vancouver Island, moving to the Comox Valley in 2016, where she now resides with her husband and their 4 children. They love visiting friends and family on beautiful Vancouver Island.
While Amanda grew up in Canada and her first language is English, she was also raised by a mother who spoke Cantonese to her. She is happy to teach private students in Cantonese.
Formal piano training began with memorable piano lessons at the age of 5. With added support from her mother and grandmother, both piano teachers themselves, she completed multiple exams with the Royal Conservatory of Music before trying her hand at pop, jazz, and worship music with experienced instructors.
Amanda has had the absolute privilege of being part of internationally renowned auditioned choirs for many years, such as Youth Choir 61 in Victoria, BC, and Island Voices Chamber Choir, here in the Comox Valley. She had the honour of performing with choirs from around the world at the International Choral Festival, Kathaumixw, in 2008.
With a firm musical foundation, Amanda was able to transfer many skills and picked up other instruments on her own quite quickly. She has played every instrument on church worship teams, most often while singing and/or leading, easily transposing songs to support the team and congregation when needed.
With a playful, positive spirit, coupled with her intrinsic love to support others and share her time, skills, and knowledge, using customized games and strategies that work best for each child, learning is way more than just sitting at the piano poking away at notes!
In 2002, Amanda opened up her piano studio. In 2009, she became the civilian band instructor for the PPCLI 2483 Army Cadets. She has also taught music classes at a daycare for infants/toddlers, 3-5 year olds, and afterschool care children, along with Spring and Summer day camps.
After a teaching hiatus filled with an extraordinary amount of diapers and baby snuggles, Amanda returned to teaching in 2024 with her own studio. In May 2025, she did her Level 1 Training with Music for Young Children.
Whether teaching privately or in MYC classes, Amanda loves to keep her students’ musical journey a positive one. Not every lesson is the same, just as not every child is the same. Often incorporated in her lessons are cooperative or competitive games, stories, arts and crafts, play-doh, sensory bins, building blocks, jumping around, scavenger hunts, a whole lot of whimsy, and more!
Her patience and decades of experience give her a calm flexibility to meet each student where they are at, on that particular day. We are wired to connect and play. We learn and retain information far quicker when we learn joyfully, so let’s have fun!
When she isn’t teaching music, Amanda is reading, homeschooling her own children, working on her own professional development, learning about different ways children learn and develop, or finding fun new things for her kids and students.

"We are absolutely loving the program! I didn’t know how piano would be for Keagan, but it’s the first extra curricular that has really grabbed his attention. I can’t get over how well the curriculum has been thought out and I love that he leaves every lesson feeling good about himself."
